Cross Country = Smart

Two great pieces of news came to us at Park Hill South today. Park Hill South has the HIGHEST average ACT on the Missouri side of the Metro! What an excellent accomplishment for our school. I also wanted to share that the girls Cross Country team has the HIGHEST team GPA with 3.6!!! We are tied with volleyball but their average was out of 15 girls and ours is out of 50+ girls! WAY TO GO CROSS COUNTRY LADIES!!!! Congratulations to the parents too for all of the encouragement academically and athletically!

Practice Starts Soon!!!

Practice starts August 10th! ALL athletes need to have their physicals completed AND turned in PRIOR to participating in ANY practice. NO ONE will be allowed to practice without a completed physical. We expect ALL athletes to be at ALL practice unless we hear from that specific athlete or parent. If you have any conflicts with practice you NEED to call Coach Lerch or e-mail her with the dates and times of practice conflicts. It is highly important that we start the season off right as a TEAM! Our first practice is August 10th from 6:30-8:00 at Park Hill South on the track. Monday night, practice is from 6:30-8:00 pm at English Landing Park. Meet on the basketball court behind the restrooms. Tuesday and Wednesday practices will be at the same times and locations as Monday's practices. Thursday and Friday, we will practice at 6:30 am ONLY at Park Hill South. Come to practice with a water bottle and in appropriate clothing. Running clothes can be expensive so try looking at Marshall's for cheaper Nike clothing and check out Target for their sports bras, tanks and shorts. Shop August 7th-9th and receive the tax free beneifts! See you soon!!! Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Last Week of Summer Runs

The week of July 27th -30th is our last week of summer morning runs before we take 1 week off and then start practice on August 10th. Monday, July 27th we are at Riss Lake, Tuesday @ Walden Clubhouse, Wednesday @ the MO Riverfront Trail. The weather is unseasonably cool so come out and enjoy it with us! Thursday we are at Gladstone Bowl at 6:45 PM!! Thursday night's run is a 6 mile run targeted toward the athletes who have been meeting and running ALL summer. After the run, they will be treated to Maggie Moos ice cream for all of their hard work and dedication this summer. August 4th, KC Sports Medicine Metro Walk Run will host Park Hill South Cross Country night from 6-8 pm. If athletes need a new pair of running shoes, this is a great place to go to get fitted by experienced and knowledgeable runners. Sunday, August 9th is the Race for the Cure at Union Station in downtown KC. This is a huge race for an excellent cause and - it is the LAST 5K high school CC runners can compete in prior to the season starting. Registration is online at www.komenkansascity.org or on August 7th at Dick's Sporting Goods in Zona Rosa from 10am-8pm. Practice starts August 10th! ALL athletes need to have their physicals completed AND turned in PRIOR to participating in ANY practice. NO ONE will be allowed to practice without a completed physical. We expect ALL athletes to be at ALL practice unless we hear from that specific athlete. If you have any conflicts with practice you NEED to call Coach Lerch or e-mail her with the dates and times of practice conflicts. It is highly important that we start the season off right as a TEAM! See you soon!!! Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Week 2 of Summer Runs

The girls enjoyed some very nice, below normal temperatures for our first week of summer runs. Each day, we had 18-22 girls out running - what a great way to start the summer! Next week, we start Monday, June 15th at Riss Lake, Tuesday at Walden, Wednesday at English Landing Park and Thursday at Thousand Oaks. Please see side bar for directions to all meeting spots. It looks like we will be back to normal summer temps by the end of the week, so please remember to hydrate and bring a water bottle to each run. Senior, Dana Willsey, is our Senior Leader of the week. Please remember, summer runs are designed to create endurance training for our athletes so we are ready to go in August. Summer runs ARE NOT designed to test athletes or race them, we simply want to build a nice, strong base before our season starts. We will start out with lower mileage and build as the summer continues but each runner will run at her own pace and build her own mileage. Some runners will start with 1-2 miles and build to 4 and some may start at 4 miles and build to 6-7 miles. So, if you haven't been running- don't worry but...now is the time to start!!!
Once again, please e-mail me or call with any questions you may have! Hope you are enjoying your summer!

Sectional Results

Congratulations to the girls team on their performance at Sectionals this weekend! The girls worked so hard to get this far and we are proud of them! the field for the day was very fast and very competitive. The girls did a great job showing up, ready to compete and run fast times. Also, best of luck to Park Bryant and Brady Jacobs from the PHS Boys team as they compete in the State meet this weekend. The boys run at 10:45 in Jefferson City. To see their results click here: http://www.mshsaa.org/Activities/ChampionshipEvents.aspx
Coach Huff and I very proud of the team and all of their hard work this season (ALL of you!) We would have never had a Sectional Qualifying team if it were not for the dedication and hard work of each and every one of the athletes. Special thanks to the following girls who came out to support the Sectional race: Kyla Henderson, Jane Jackson, Diane-Jo Bart-Plange, Evan and Dana Willsey, Kierstie Bischoff, Shanelle Kudera and Maggi Wolfe. We know not everyone could make it but thanks to these girls for getting up early on yet another Saturday morning!
Tomorrow (November 4th) is the LAST DAY TO TURN IN UNIFORMS!!!! Turn in uniforms and warm-ups in Coach Huff's room (E109) at the end of the day Tuesday. We will also ask all athletes to fill out their end of the season evaluation.
Beginning next week and through the Winter break, we will meet and run as a group after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays. These are optional workouts but a great way to stay in shape for spring sports. We will meet in the hall by the locker rooms. All athletes are welcomed to attend - not just returning CC athletes! Track conditioning will start in January after the Winter Break.
Thanks again to all of the parents for all of their support this season - we could have never done this without you!!!
